Silk Opera is a fresh, new, dynamic opera company, born in Macclesfield and created to bring quality entertainment to the North West of England.
Macclesfield is known as Treacletown, referring to the centuries old accident when a horse drawn wagon overturned, spilling its cargo of Treacle onto the cobbles. Nowadays there is a monthly Treacle Market in the Market Place, a chance to find gorgeous things on the streets of Macclesfield once again. Just less sticky.
The historic town of Macclesfield - with its steep cobbled streets, handsome Market Place, medieval thoroughfares, silk mills, textile heritage, museums and fascinating churches - celebrates the 750th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter in 2011 with a year-long programme of events.
Tatton Park's historic gardens have been voted the ‘Number 1’ garden in Central England by readers of Gardeners’ World Magazine.
